It’s been an up and down spring in France with the weather playing havoc with the fishing. One minute very hot with high pressure the next cold. The carp tried to spawn in early April but a very cold four day spell put an end to that. But finally, the last week of May the fish have spawned. The fishing as you would expect has mirrored the conditions. Low pressure with an Easterly or Southerly wind has produced good fishing conditions and a lot of fish on the bank. Alex was caught at 71lb from peg 8 during a three day low pressure, mild temperatures and light rain, ideal big carp conditions. The big common was also caught along with one of the other big 50lb fish. English angler Garry Covell bagging the stunning common from peg 9, this fish is set to push on well over 60lb in the next few years. But it was regulars Ribiere anglers Piero and Jo Vandeweyer from Belgium who took advantage of the fish grouping up to spawn in peg 6 and 7. During their week they managed over 16 fish with 7 over 40lb to 48lb and two over 50lb to 58.6lb. A great result leading up to spawning. Not only that but they managed to catch some of Ribiere’s more difficult residents. Their biggest fish the long grey only being caught once or twice per year. This fish has only come to our attention over the last year and is a fish that looks like it will smash the 60lb barrier this year.
